In the background are only some of the many items by local artists available for purchase at the art co-op on Gilchrist Street in downtown Wheatland.

WHEATLAND – Even the local art community is helping to keep downtown Wheatland a viable entity. Due the the idea of artist Helen Rutz, at a cost of $10 per person per month, 23 local artists have come together to open a gallery which serves as a co-op for marketing their talents.

Just walking around the building at 867 Gilchrist makes one very aware of the breadth and depth of creativity by local artisans. If one is looking for a special piece to decorate a shelf, there are woodcarvings, stained glass, engravings and bronze works by Trish Fredericks, Carl Jensen, Gwen Seidel and Bob Karolak.

Perhaps you're looking for a special photo or painting for particular empty place on a particular wall. Wanda Lambert, Woody Hobbs, Diana Morrell, Jane Moore, Bonnie Parker, John Reynolds, Virjean Reynolds, Hazel Roberts, Helen Rutz, Kay Todd, Beverly Werkele, Jessica Gordon, Fred Werkele or Leah Yetter have wonderful items to perfectly fill that spot.
