Area authors unveil Frontier Days book

WHEATLAND - The world’s largest outdoor rodeo is mere weeks away, and the timing couldn’t be better for two local authors to release their book.

Last Saturday, Starley Talbott and Linda Fabian launched their book, “Cheyenne Frontier Days” as part of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series. The duo has been working on the book since June of last year.

Talbott, who currently lives in Cheyenne, grew up in the Chugwater area and recalls going to Cheyenne Frontier Days in her youth.

“We went to Frontier Days all the time,” she said. “We used to able to sit above the chutes for $5 until the rest of the world discovered those were the best seats. We would go to town to the parade and have a picnic in the park.”

Fabian was the first woman on the Frontier Days concession committee and remembers the big event fondly.

“Cheyenne Frontier Days” is Talbott’s third publication with Arcadia, previously contributing to books about Fort Laramie and Platte County. Fabian worked on a book about Douglas.

“We really liked this ‘Images of America’ concept because everybody likes old photographs,” Fabian said. “It gives people an idea of how things have progressed and changed over the years.”
