Prior to the groundbreaking for the new Glendo Emergency Services Building on Friday, Sept. 18, Mayor Jay Collins thanked the voters of Platte County. It was the voters, after all, which made it possible for the Town of Glendo to look forward to a new Emergency Services Building.
In August 2008, voters passed the Capital Facilities One Percent Sales Tax. Before the vote took place, each town in the County was asked to choose a project that funds from the tax would be used for if the tax initiative passed.
Reasons including roof leakage, mold infestation and damage from a fire prompted the Town of Glendo to seek a new Emergency Services Building. Now, they're well on their way to getting one.
During their September Town Council meeting, the Glendo Town Council awarded Norb Olind Construction the contract to construct the new building. The lump sump price of the contract is $559,500.
Prior to the Town Council choosing the Wheatland business, Norb Olind Construction submitted their initial bid on Aug. 17 for a public bid opening. There were altogether nine companies that bid on the project, which was narrowed down to five. During the interview process, Norb Olind Construction met with the project advisory committee, consisting of Paul Bauder, Mike Huser, Jim Kahler and Dave Noyce. During their September meeting, the Town Council voted unanimously in favor of awarding the contract to Norb Olind Construction.
Preconstruction Manager Dan Olind said that the design for the new building is now 90 percent complete. Demolition of the old building and construction of the new building began on Monday, Sept. 21.

Superintendent for the Glendo Emergency Services Building project is Jared Harris. Designer and Project Manager is Eric Peterson.
During Friday's groundbreaking ceremony, Dan Olind stated the building would be complete in January 2010.
The new building will be an 80x120 square foot metal building. It will have 10 bays and will be used by the Glendo Fire Dept., Glendo Ambulance Service and the Rural Fire Dept.
It will also have two training rooms for the Fire Dept. and Ambulance Service.
