Search and Rescue Team Looking for Volunteers

WHEATLAND—Search dogs, sonar and underwater cameras are just a few of the things you’ll hear about when attending a meeting of Platte County Search and Rescue. The volunteer organization provides the ever-important task of searching for, and aiding, people in distress. “We’re always in need of new people,” says Treasurer Erin Hale. When asked why one should volunteer with the group, Hale says “you get to work with a great group of members and assist families.” On average, Platte County’s Search and Rescue organization is called out once a year to look for lost people.
Members of the group are required to obtain search and rescue training certifications (which can be accomplished online) and must pass a background check. The group has equipment, fundraising and training committees for those desiring a to make a greater contribution.
