The Platte County School District #1 Board of Trustees met in Glendo on Monday, Aug. 17, for their regular meeting.
The Board voted to set the date for the 2010 high school graduation for District #1 students for May 22 and 23 of 2010.
Summer projects for the District are nearing completion, according to a report from District Superintendent Stuart Nelson.
In Glendo, the new Wellness Center at the School is also nearing completion. Molly Wilhelm of Platte County Parks and Recreation said the inspection has been completed on the facility and the Center should be open for use soon.
The District passed the federal government Adequate Yearly Process scoring for their schools, and the Board heard a report from District A & I Instructor Scott James.
James said information on PAWS testing results from 2006-08 were available and 2009 results would be available by the September Board Meeting.
James said the results for the test saw “big gains” specifically in writing. He added the District is currently looking for ways to continue to improve student performance. He said there will be use of new curriculum, such as Springboard, which should further improve test scores.
“While we’re not performing poorly… we’re striving to do better. Our data is good, but we can do better, and that’s what we’re [working towards],” he said.
The next School Board meeting will be held September 14 at 7 p.m. in Wheatland.
The 2009-10 School year will start for the District this Thursday.
